The Next Level for the Tactical Screen: Welcome to the Community Hub!
We all know the biggest problem with our hobby: You’ve just finished painting your Mechs, pored over the rulebooks, and have the dice all set—but you don’t have anyone to play with. Whether you’re deeply immersed in the tactical simulations of Classic BattleTech or prefer the fast-paced, epic battles of Alpha Strike (AS), finding like-minded players in your own region has often been a matter of pure luck on dusty forums or massive Discord servers.
That’s all over now. I’ve added a powerful new feature to the Tactical Screen that finally connects our community across platforms and around the world: the brand-new Community Hub!
The entire section is in English to seamlessly connect Mech commanders around the globe. Here, you’ll learn what the new tool can do and how you can start using it right away.
What is the Community Hub?
The Community Hub transforms the Tactical Screen from a simple display tool into an interactive, map-based networking platform. It serves as your tactical map for checking out—or organizing yourself—tabletop activities, regular meetups, events, and other pilots in your area.
I have divided the system into four distinct categories:
- 🟣 Person: Individual players (like you!) who are looking for new matches or regular game sessions.
- 🔵 Gaming Groups & Clubs: Find casual gaming groups or formal clubs in your area.
- 🟢 Stores & Vendors: Local tabletop game stores (FLGS) that carry BattleTech products and provide gaming tables.
- 🟠 Events & Tournaments: Time-limited events such as tournaments, campaign weekends, demo days, or open gaming sessions.
Highlights of the New Hub
1. Global proximity search by ZIP code
Thanks to a built-in world map and a smart geodata search, all you have to do now is enter your country and ZIP code. With a handy radius slider (ranging from 10 km to “nationwide”), you can filter the map to show exactly what you’re looking for. Do you only want to see players who support Alpha Strike? Or are you looking for a Classic game within a 25 km radius? One click is all it takes.
2. The “Community Radar” (The Bell Feature)
Don’t want to manually check the map every day to see if a new player or event has been added near you? No problem. In your Radar profile, you can set your home country, your ZIP code, and your preferred radius.
As soon as someone signs up for a new event, a new gaming group, or adds themselves as a player within your defined radius, your radar goes off: You’ll immediately see a bell icon at the top of the menu bar. One click, and you’ll know what’s happening right on your doorstep!
3. Flexible Privacy Settings for Private Games and Players
It’s important to me that everyone can decide for themselves how much they want to share. Stores or public clubs should set their listings to “Public” —that way, every visitor to the website can see them. As an individual player or a private group, however, you can set your listing to “Registered Users Only.” Anonymous visitors to the website won’t see your PIN at all—this way, your data remains protected and is visible only to logged-in members of the community.
For entries about people, any address provided is generally visible only to registered users. This ensures that search engines, bots, and the like have no way of capturing your address.
