Is the game beginner-friendly or more for experienced tabletop gamers?

It is very beginner-friendly, but offers enough depth for experienced players.

Do I need previous knowledge of the Halo video games to play?

No. Knowledge of the games is helpful for the atmosphere, but not necessary – the rules stand for themselves.

How many players can take part in a game?

Two by default, but multiplayer scenarios are also possible with a little organization.

How long does a typical game last?

A game usually lasts 45-90 minutes, depending on the scenario and playing experience.

The Recon Edition contains Spartans. The Spartan Edition contains the Banished Elites (Sangheili Mercenaries) in addition to the Spartans.

Can I paint my miniatures or are they already finished?

The models are unpainted and fully assembled. The miniatures come in colored plastic so that the players’ figures can be distinguished immediately. If you wish, you can of course paint them to personalize them.

Do I need special terrain or play mats?

No, the two starter sets (Recon and Spartan) contain everything you need for a game. Terrain, playing area, dice, …. Of course, you can also use your own terrain that fits the game system.

Rules and game mechanics issues

How big is the pitch for a standard game?

As a rule, the game is played on an area of 8×8 “dice”. Each dice has an edge length of 3 inches. The playing field is therefore 24×24 inches in size (approx. 60x60cm)

Is there a German translation of the rules?

The starter boxes are also available in German. The expansion sets are currently only available in English.

How quickly do you learn the basic rules?

After one or two rounds you know the basics – ideal for beginners.

Are there scenario rules?

Yes, the rulebook contains scenarios. These scenarios are strongly based on the video games.

How does the activation system work in Halo: Flashpoint?

Players take turns activating (moving) units, which makes the game dynamic and tactical.

How big is the average army in points / models?

As a rule, 4 models are played on each side. However, this can vary depending on the line-up (e.g. use of the Master Chief).

How are hits and damage handled in the game?

Over D8 dice rolls: attack against defense, hits cause damage. The value you have to dice to hit depends on the unit used.

Does the luck of the dice play a major role or are tactical decisions more important?

Both – luck of the dice is there, but good positioning and clever use of skills are crucial.

Can I put together my own army or are there fixed lists?

In the two starter boxes, the units are fixed. Thanks to a rule expansion(War Games expansion pack), there is now a points system for flexible unit composition. There are points values for units so that you can assemble your troops individually.
