Guest article: “3052 Alyina” – A mission by Xinthius (Jade Falcon vs. Lyran Commonwealth)

Today I’m delighted to be able to present you with an exciting guest article! Our community member Xinthius has worked out a detailed daily scenario that catapults us right into the era of the clan invasion.

Pack your dice and charge the PPK capacitors – it’s off to Alyina!

The setting: the hunters become the hunted

The year is 3052, in the middle of the clan invasion. The setting is the planet Alyina. The special feature of this scenario is the dynamic reversal of the usual roles: After Clan Jade Falcon has penetrated deep into the space of the Lyran Commonwealth, they suddenly find themselves on the defensive. The Lyrans launch a desperate counterattack, and the invaders must try to hold their position against the advancing Commonwealth forces.

Mission facts at a glance

Here are the key dates for your planning:

  • System: BattleTech (Alpha Strike mechanics based on PV)
  • Point size: 700 PV per side.
  • Bonus: Each side also receives a free pilot upgrade (+1 skill) and a LongTom artillery piece.
  • Duration: 10 rounds.
  • Terrain: Grassland with Urban Combat elements (walls/buildings).
  • Scope: Includes artillery (on board), infantry, vehicles and urban combat.

Special mission rules

Xinthius has included some interesting special rules that make the game tactically challenging:

1. hacking of the outpost

It’s not just about destroying. The attackers must “hack” an outpost. To do this, a unit must stand on the target square and make a test (D6 to 4+) during the movement phase (instead of moving). During hacking, the unit may neither physically attack nor move, and weapon attacks are more difficult.

2. convoys & strategic goals

Both sides have convoys (4 hit points, movement only on the road) that must be protected or destroyed. There are also strategic buildings with different “Construction Factors” (CF), the destruction or preservation of which scores victory points.

3. staggered installation

Not everything is thrown into battle immediately. At the beginning, only 75% of the troops (approx. 525 PV) are deployed. The remaining 25% serve as supplies and only come into play when a specific “supply target value” is reached.

The armed forces

The scenario package already contains suggestions for the unit lists, so you can get started right away.

  • Team A (Lyran Commonwealth): Here you will find classics like the Commando, Wolfhound, Bushwacker and heavy hitters like the Awesome or King Crab.
  • Team B (Clan Jade Falcon): The clans field Battle Cobras, Elementals, Mad Cats (Timber Wolf) and Lokis (Hellbringer), among others.
Hacking the Outpost This image focuses on one of the specific mission rules: hacking the outpost. A Lyran commando mech can be seen at the console of the building while an enemy Jade Falcon mech approaches.

Victory conditions

The game ends automatically when a team has no more combat-capable units or after 10 rounds. The winner is the player who has collected the most Victory Points (VP).

  • Lyrans score points by penetrating the walls, hacking the outpost and destroying buildings.
  • Jade Falcon scores points by holding the outpost, eliminating the enemy commander and preserving the strategic buildings.

Many thanks to Xinthius for this great elaboration!
