Respawns in Halo:Flashpoint
In most tabletop skirmishers, losing a model is a disaster – a permanent disadvantage that often spells the end of your chances of victory. In Halo: Flashpoint however, things are very different. Here, death is not a failure, but a tactical resource.
As the rule book so aptly puts it:
“In the battle arenas of Halo: Flashpoint, death is only a temporary distraction from achieving your goal.”
In this article, we’ll take a look at how you can use the respawn system to radically change your playstyle and bring your opponents to their knees through pure aggression.

The anatomy of respawning: what you need to know
Before we get to the strategy, let’s take a look at the hard facts of the rules:
- State after death: When a model is eliminated, all damage markers are removed.
- Return: The model returns the next time it is activated.
- Fresh supplies: A respawning model has full health points, full energy shields and – which is often crucial – all one/two use weapons are reset.
Tactic 1: The “Aggressive Objective-Rush”
Since you know that your Spartan (or Elite) will be ready for action next turn, you can occupy the field center or mission objectives much more aggressively.
- Don’t be afraid of crossfire: Send a model directly at a mission objective, even if it is completely unprotected. If the opponent uses resources to take it out, he has taken the model off the field for a short time, but has not made any lasting progress.
- Opponent resource depletion: Every shot your opponent fires at a model that will return fully healed next turn anyway is a wasted shot at your remaining troops.
Tactic 2: The “Tactical Reset” (ammunition & shields)
This is probably the most unique aspect of Halo: Flashpoint. A nearly destroyed model with emptied special weapons is often worth less than a “dead” model.
Why “letting die” can make sense:
- Shield regeneration: Instead of spending two turns in cover to painstakingly regenerate shields, you drop the model in battle. It returns with 100% combat strength.
- Weapon Reload: Have you already used up your rocket launchers or grenades? A respawn immediately replenishes these powerful tools.
- Repositioning: Since you respawn at one of your respawn markers, you can use the respawn to quickly switch sides of the battlefield if the original flank has been overrun.

Conclusion: Play like a Spartan!
In Halo: Flashpoint, the winner is not the one who plays the most carefully, but the one who uses the Activation Economy and the respawn system most efficiently. Don’t be afraid of losing models. Think of them as waves that crash inexorably against the enemy’s defenses.
If your Spartan falls, reload, take a quick breath and jump back into the fray on the next turn with full shields and fresh grenades.
