In our <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%23\">last article<\/a>, we crossed the magic threshold and fielded a full company consisting of three lances. We learned how the strategic trio\u2014the vanguard (<em>Battle Lance<\/em>), the flanking force (<em>Striker Lance<\/em>), and the artillery lurking in the background (<em>Fire Support Lance<\/em>)\u2014works together like a perfectly coordinated orchestra. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, we\u2019re breaking free from the traditional constraints of pure &#8216;Mech battles! When your tabletop skirmishes reach the magic threshold of <strong>450 to 600 PV<\/strong>, you\u2019re stepping beyond the realm of standard games. You\u2019re now fielding a <strong>Reinforced Company<\/strong>! Twelve &#8216;Mechs are a thing of the past\u2014today we\u2019re expanding your force with a fourth, highly specialized element, bringing the total to 16 units.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For beginners, this step introduces one of the coolest aspects of the BattleTech universe: <strong>Combined Arms<\/strong>. We\u2019re moving beyond pure &#8216;Mech formations and incorporating a <strong>Vehicle Lance<\/strong>. They advance at a steady pace (<strong>6&#8243; to 8&#8243;<\/strong>) and psychologically force the enemy to use its heaviest weapons against this \u201carmor sponge.\u201d <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lance 2: The Fire Support Lance (\u201cThe Wide Shield\u201d)<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The objective:<\/strong> Position yourself on hills or behind safe cover within your own deployment zone and provide heavy ranged fire support for the Battle Lance&#8217;s advance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The lineup:<\/strong> <em>Catapult CPLT-C1, Archer ARC-2R, Awesome AWS-8Q, Blackjack BJ-1.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why this selection?<\/strong> Thanks to<a href=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/en\/indirect-fire-in-battletech-alpha-strike\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"387\"> <strong>indirect fire (<code>IF<\/code>)<\/strong><\/a> from <em>the Archer<\/em> and <em>Catapult<\/em>, rockets rain down on the enemy while the shooters lie in wait behind hills, completely out of the enemy\u2019s reach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lance 3: The Striker\/Cavalry Lance (\u201cThe Heavy Hammer\u201d)<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The objective:<\/strong> Bypass the center via the flanks and advance at lightning speed into the back of the distracted opponent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The lineup:<\/strong> <em>Phoenix Hawk PXH-1, Griffin GRF-1N, Wolverine WVR-6R, Locust LCT-1E.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why this selection?<\/strong> Extreme mobility (<strong>10&#8243; to 12&#8243; MV<\/strong>) and high target movement modifiers (<strong>TMM of +2 or +3<\/strong>). They strike hard, collect the rear-attack bonus, and disappear back into cover. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lance 4: The Recon &amp; Medium Assault Vehicle Lance (\u201cThe Tracked Guard\u201d)<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where things get new and exciting for beginners. This fourth lance consists entirely of <strong>conventional tracked and wheeled vehicles<\/strong>. Its mission is twofold: Two extremely fast vehicles serve as scouts, while two heavier tanks act as the medium battle line. They provide support wherever it\u2019s needed most.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lineup (Example \u2013 103 PV)  <\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><td><strong>Vehicle<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Role \/ Type<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>PV<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>MV<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Damage (S\/M\/L)<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Armor \/ Structure<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Special Features<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>J. On the other hand, they are <strong>extremely low-scoring<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Scouts (<em>J. Edgar<\/em> &amp; <em>Pegasus<\/em>):<\/strong> These hover tanks (<strong><code>h<\/code> for &#8220;hover&#8221;<\/strong>) are lightning fast. With a movement of 22&#8243; or 16&#8243;, they zip across the battlefield to capture mission objectives before the enemy has even moved its Mechs. They also serve as mobile spotters (reconnaissance units) for your <em>Fire Support Lance<\/em>.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medium Battle Tanks (<em>Manticore<\/em> &amp; <em>Rommel<\/em>):<\/strong> These<strong>tracked<\/strong> vehicles (<strong><code>t<\/code> <\/strong>) function like medium-weight &#8216;Mechs but cost fewer PV. The <em>Manticore<\/em> deals reliable damage at any range, while the <em>Rommel<\/em>, with its massive autocannon, creates an absolute no-go zone at close range. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teamwork in the 4th Company: Tactics<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With 16 units on the table, you need to look at the battlefield as a whole, just like a general. Ideally, your teamwork should run like a perfectly coordinated clockwork mechanism: <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 1: The Vanguard and the Base (Round 1)<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your <strong>Fire Support Lance<\/strong> takes up a defensive position in the rear. The two Hover Scouts (<strong>J. Edgar<\/strong> and <strong>Pegasus<\/strong>) use their immense speed to immediately rush forward and secure key strategic points on the map. Because they\u2019re so fast, they force the enemy to adjust their movements early on.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 2: The Anvil and the Escort Guard (Rounds 2\u20133)<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your <strong>Battle Lance<\/strong> is advancing through the center. But this time, it&#8217;s not marching alone: the <strong>Manticore<\/strong> and the <strong>Rommel tank<\/strong> are flanking the heavy &#8216;Mechs. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The advantage:<\/em> The <em>Rommel<\/em> secures the Battle Lance\u2019s flank against fast-moving enemy attackers, while the <em>Manticore<\/em> provides additional firepower. The Battle Lance absorbs the damage, allowing the tanks to fire unimpeded. When the Scouts have targets in their line of sight, the <em>Fire Support Lance<\/em> rains down rockets from the rear using <em>Indirect Fire<\/em>.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phase 3: The Pincer Attack (Round 3+)<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the center is ablaze and the tanks hold the line, your <strong>Striker Lance<\/strong> breaks out over one flank to attack the enemy from the rear. The two Hover Scouts, which had positioned themselves at the front on the first turn, now join the attack from the <em>other<\/em> flank. The enemy is caught in a classic pincer movement and collapses under the coordinated pressure of four specialized lances.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Getting started with <em>Combined Arms<\/em> using a reinforced company shows just how deep and strategic Alpha Strike can be without making the rules too complicated.
