A tank has the same basic values as a BattleMech: <em>Armor, Structure, Damage (S\/M\/L) and TMM<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The advantage:<\/strong> You don&#8217;t have to scroll through tables for hit zones or chain failures. A heavy tank feels like a threat because it follows the same logical rules as your beloved <em>Atlas BattleMech<\/em>, but is often more specialized. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. the economics of activation<\/h3>\n\n<p>Alpha Strike scales excellently. Because the rules are so lean, you can easily run 12 to 20 units per side. This is where Combined Arms comes into play:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mass vs. class:<\/strong> While a modern clan mech costs 50+ PV (Points Value), you can often get two platoons of infantry and several cheap tanks for the same price.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tactical advantage:<\/strong> In the activation phase, these &#8220;cheap units&#8221; allow you to wait for your opponent&#8217;s movements before positioning your valuable mechs. This is a strategic lever that pure mech lists often lose. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What sets Alpha Strike apart from other systems<\/h2>\n\n<p>In most sci-fi tabletops, vehicles are either overpowered bunkers or fragile cardboard boxes. Alpha Strike uses <strong>movement types<\/strong> as a real tactical differentiator for vehicles: <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The tyranny of the terrain<\/h3>\n\n<p>Mechs are all-rounders, but specialized units break the rules:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hovercrafts (hovertanks):<\/strong> They ignore water and are almost unassailable on the open field (high TMM). A <em>Savannah Master<\/em> for a paltry 10 PV can tie up a 60 PV mech for two turns because it simply can&#8217;t hit it. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>VTOLs (vertical take-off and landing):<\/strong> They use the Z-axis. While mechs crawl through forests, a <em>Yellowjacket<\/em> with a Gauss cannon simply flies over the obstacle and shoots from a position that the enemy cannot counter. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wheeled vehicles<\/strong>: Have the advantage of additional range when moving on roads\/hard concrete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Synergy Magic: Special Unit Abilities<\/h2>\n\n<p>The real attraction lies in the <strong>abilities<\/strong>. Combined Arms turns Alpha Strike into a puzzle game in which the pieces fit together perfectly: <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The &#8220;Spotting &amp; Rain&#8221; principle<\/h3>\n\n<p>Classic mechs often have to fire their weapons to do damage. A team of <strong>infantry <\/strong> and an <strong>LRM carrier (<a href=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/en\/indirect-fire-in-battletech-alpha-strike\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"387\">&#8216;IF&#8217; &#8211; Indirect Fire<\/a>)<\/strong> does the following: <\/p>\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The infantry hides in a forest right next to the enemy (high cover bonus).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It serves as a <strong>spotter<\/strong> (target allocator).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your LRM tank is 30 inches away behind a massive mountain &#8211; completely safe from return fire &#8211; and indirectly raining missiles.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>This is Combined Arms at its best: maximum destruction with minimum risk.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Battle Armor: The burrs on the battlefield<\/h3>\n\n<p>Nothing annoys a mech player more than <strong>Battle Armor (BA)<\/strong>. Their abilities allow them to &#8220;ride&#8221;, i.e. be transported, on certain mechs. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Example:<\/strong> A fast <em>Fire Moth<\/em> (The Taxi) brings a squad of <em>Elemental Battle Armor<\/em> directly into the back of an opponent. The Elementals jump off and use their attacks to slow down the enemy. Now the &#8220;king of the battlefield&#8221; is an easy target for your heavy guns.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The &#8220;realism&#8221; factor: a living world<\/h2>\n\n<p>BattleTech is a military sci-fi simulation. In a real battle, generals would never send just one kind. The appeal of Combined Arms is the feeling of commanding a <strong>real army<\/strong>:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The armored train stops the bridge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The infantry secures the buildings in the city (where mechs are extremely vulnerable to melee attacks!).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mechs are the &#8220;heavy cavalrymen&#8221; who achieve the decisive breakthrough.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion: Dare to use the sheet metal!<\/h2>\n\n<p>Combined Arms makes Alpha Strike <strong>more unpredictable<\/strong>. If you only deploy mechs, your opponent knows what to expect. But if you suddenly come around the corner with a mixture of fast hoverers, camouflaged sniper teams and indirect fire artillery, they&#8217;ll have to rethink their entire strategy.  <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>My tip for the next game night:<\/strong> Replace one of your heavy mechs with two cheap tanks and a squad of Battle Armor.
