But if you find yourself in a hostile environment such as the bottom of an ocean or the vacuum of a moon, even a small scratch can mean the end. <\/p>\n\n<p>In <em>Alpha Strike<\/em>, units are normally safe from critical hits as long as their armor is still intact. In extreme environments such as <strong>underwater<\/strong> or in a <strong>vacuum<\/strong>, however, this changes drastically, as any hit can jeopardize structural integrity and lead to flooding or air loss. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"559\" src=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gemini_Generated_Image_y7rocqy7rocqy7ro-1024x559.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gemini_Generated_Image_y7rocqy7rocqy7ro-1024x559.png 1024w, https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gemini_Generated_Image_y7rocqy7rocqy7ro-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gemini_Generated_Image_y7rocqy7rocqy7ro-768x419.png 768w, https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gemini_Generated_Image_y7rocqy7rocqy7ro-1536x838.png 1536w, https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gemini_Generated_Image_y7rocqy7rocqy7ro-2048x1117.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Under water:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Critical Hit Chance:<\/strong> Each successful attack against a fully submerged unit creates a chance of a critical hit, even if armor is still present and no structure point has been lost.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Partially submerged units:<\/strong> These can prevent a hull breach by successfully making a roll against their <strong>skill value with a +2 penalty<\/strong>. Success negates the chance of a critical hit. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fully submerged units:<\/strong> If they lose all their armor, they automatically sink and are considered destroyed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vacuum and thin atmospheres:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vacuum:<\/strong> Every non-spacecraft and non-infantry unit that takes damage in vacuum must check 2D6 to see if a hull breach occurs. If the <strong>result is 8 or higher<\/strong>, a roll on the Critical Hit Table must be made immediately. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trace atmosphere (Trace):<\/strong> The risk is lower here; a hull rupture only occurs with a throw of <strong>10 or higher<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Special features:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>):<\/em>* Even if a 0* attack does not cause an actual point of damage, it will still force a hull break check in these environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Protective measures:<\/strong> The <strong>BattleMech HarJel (BHJ)<\/strong> special ability allows mechs to completely ignore these additional hull breach checks. Units with <strong>Environmental Sealing (SEAL)<\/strong> are generally equipped for these environments, but still risk ruptures on damage <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p>I hope I have given you an insight into the world of hull fractures.
