The fact that the legendary Wolf’s Dragoons<\/strong> and Kell Hounds<\/strong> rushed to the defense marked the first time Houses Kurita and Davion fought side by side against an external enemy. But while the Inner Sphere was burying its internal feuds, the arrogance of the invaders was already causing the first crack in their plan of attack. <\/p>\n\n
2. the pride of the invaders: the commandments and plans<\/h3>\n\n
The downfall of Operation DRAGONSLAYER was the result of logistical self-mutilation<\/strong>. Driven by the shame of their defeat on Wolcott and envy of Clan Wolf’s successes, Dorian Wirth (Smoke Jaguar) and Severen Leroux (Nova Cat) engaged in a fatalbidding<\/em> war. Considering the defenders inferior and dishonorable due to their “dishonorable” behaviour on Wolcott, they decided against a formal batchall<\/em> – a mistake that blinded them to the arrival of the mercenaries. <\/p>\n\n

This sacrifice of air and space superiority against a massively fortified capital world would prove to be the strategic pivot point that caused the invasion to fail. <\/p>\n\n
3rd Phase I: The burning sky (January 4, 3052)<\/h3>\n\n
The battle began in the atmosphere, where the Combine’s air force attempted to intercept the Clans’ landing ships. It was not a single decisive battle, but a calculated attrition. <\/p>\n\n

05:30:<\/strong> The 3rd Aerospace Wing of the Combine attacks the invaders. Despite heavy losses, nine Clan fighters are destroyed and two landing ships are damaged. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Delay:<\/strong> The critical strike of the 7th aerospace wing is delayed due to technical defects at the catapult launch stations – a detail that gave the clans a brief respite.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
First prisoner:<\/strong> During the fighting, Tai-i Michael Cannello forces a Jagatai fighter to land at Tsu Shima<\/strong>. Star Captain Yehud (Nova Cat) becomes the first clan warrior to be captured in this battle. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
22:00:<\/strong> After 15 hours of continuous attacks, the clans reach the Tairakana Plains. The 3rd Nova Cat Aerospace Cluster is almost completely routed at this point. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n
This phase was crucial, as it weakened the Clans’ air support so much before the ground landing that they were later left defenseless on the ground.<\/p>\n\n
4th Phase II: The deception in the Tairakana levels (January 5, morning)<\/h3>\n\n
On the morning of January 5th, the Combine demonstrated its mastery of asymmetrical psychological warfare<\/strong>. Theodore Kurita used the technological trust of the clans against themselves. <\/p>\n\n

07:15 – The technological trap:<\/strong> The 1st Jaguar Guards encountered what they thought were elite Otomo Guard units. They realized too late that they had walked into a dense vibro-bomb minefield<\/strong>. The “mechs” that attacked them were in fact remote-controlled drones(Q-Mechs<\/strong>) that acted as moving bombs. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
08:45 – Psychological collapse:<\/strong> The Smoke Jaguars, demoralized by the exploding dummies, were engaged in fierce hand-to-hand combat by the real Otomo Guard and the 2nd Legion of Vega.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
09:15 – Genyosha pincer grip:<\/strong> The arrival of the legendary Genyosha regiments threatened to shatter the Jaguar flank. Only through a desperate wedge formation were the clans able to achieve a total breakthrough and push back the defenders for the time being. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
The Q-Mechs were more than just weapons; they were an instrument of psychological decomposition that forced the Clan warriors to question every target, breaking their momentum.<\/p>\n\n
5th Phase III: The Wall of Steel (January 5, noon)<\/h3>\n\n
Around midday, the action shifted to the Waseda Hills. Here the clans met the concentrated fighting power of the mercenaries, who were on an equal footing in terms of technology and tactics. <\/p>\n\n
The Tin Men of Outreach<\/strong> Amidst the Waseda Hills, the Third Battalion<\/strong> of the Wolf’s Dragoons under Major Marx<\/strong> deployed a groundbreaking innovation: Battle Armor. These massively armored infantrymen, dubbed “Tin Men” by the Nova Cats, infiltrated the Clan lines and caused chaos among the enemy OmniMechs with their sheer indestructibility. <\/p>\n\n
The tactical turning point occurred at 11:30<\/strong>. The aerospace wings of the Wolf’s Dragoons and Kell Hounds gained complete air superiority. Here the original bidding of the clans (see section 2) took full revenge: without their own fighter cover, the clan columns became the target of undisturbed bombing attacks. At Basin Lake, the 336. Jaguar Combat Cluster<\/strong> by the Third Battalion of the Second Kell Hounds<\/strong>. Although the mercenaries suffered heavy casualties, they held their ground until elements of the Sword of Light closed the sack. <\/p>\n\n
6th Phase IV: The Kado-guchi Valley – The End of the Dragon Slayer (January 5, afternoon)<\/h3>\n\n
The dramatic climax took place between 16:00 and 17:00. As the Nova Cats were on the verge of breaking through to the Imperial City, a force appeared that turned the tide for good: Coordinator Takashi Kurita personally led his “Dragon’s Claws” into the field. <\/p>\n\n
