They can also move between floors within a building at a cost of <strong>1 inch of movement per inch of building height<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ProtoMechs:<\/strong> These units can enter buildings, but have <strong>an additional movement cost of +1 inch per inch of distance traveled<\/strong>, regardless of building type. Like infantry, they can change levels within the building (1 inch cost per inch of height). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mechs (BattleMechs and IndustrialMechs):<\/strong> Mechs can enter buildings, but pay different movement costs depending on the stability of the building:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Light buildings:<\/strong> +1 inch per inch of distance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medium buildings:<\/strong> +2 inches per inch of distance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Heavy buildings:<\/strong> +3 inches per inch of distance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hardened buildings:<\/strong> +4 inches per inch of path.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Important:<\/strong> Mechs <strong>cannot change levels<\/strong> within a building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. limitations and risks<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Incidental Damage:<\/strong> Each unit (except infantry) that moves through a building deals <strong>1 point of damage<\/strong> to the building&#8217;s structure (Construction Factor, CF) per inch of distance traveled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weight capacity:<\/strong> Each building has a maximum load capacity. If the sum of the size classes (Size) of all units <strong>in or on the building<\/strong> exceeds this value, the building collapses immediately. Conventional infantry (not battle armor) counts as size 0.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Walls:<\/strong> Buildings that are declared as walls cannot be crossed by units until the wall has been destroyed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Large units and Aerospace:<\/strong> Units with the <strong>LG, VLG or SLG<\/strong> specials and Aerospace units cannot enter buildings normally; an attempt will result in the <strong>automatic collapse<\/strong> of the building (unless it is a special hangar).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. consequences of a collapse<\/h3>\n\n<p>If a building collapses (either due to structural damage or overloading), units inside will take damage:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Infantry<\/strong> inside a collapsing building is <strong>immediately destroyed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other units<\/strong> take damage based on the height and type of the building (see <em>Collapse Damage<\/em> in the building table). Units on the roof suffer an additional 1 point of damage. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1064\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1948 \/ 1064;\" width=\"1948\" controls=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/openart-video_0ef78ab3_1773064385456.mp4\" playsinline=\"\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Video AI generated<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tactical note<\/h2>\n\n<p>Moving through buildings provides <strong>cover (damage absorption)<\/strong>, as the building absorbs some of the damage from enemy attacks before the unit itself is hit.
