But they have one major disadvantage: they are paralyzed much faster than a mech. Collisions, for example due to uncontrolled skidding, also immediately trigger such a check. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The throw: The Motive Systems Damage Table<\/h3>\n\n<p>When your vehicle is hit, you roll <strong>2D6<\/strong> and add modifiers based on the vehicle&#8217;s movement type:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tracked (chains) \/ Naval (ships):<\/strong> +0 (very stable).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wheeled (wheel) \/ Hovercraft (hovercraft):<\/strong> +1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>VTOL (helicopter) \/ WiGE:<\/strong> +2 (extremely sensitive).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>The results of the throw:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2 to 8:<\/strong> No effect. You have been lucky! <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>9 to 10:<\/strong> The unit loses <strong>2 inches of movement (MV)<\/strong> and the <strong>target movement modifier (TMM)<\/strong> decreases by 1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>11:<\/strong> The unit loses <strong>50% of its movement<\/strong> and <strong>TMM<\/strong> (rounded down, but at least -2&#8243; MV and -1 TMM).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>12 or higher:<\/strong> The unit is <strong>immobilized<\/strong>. Its movement drops to 0. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why are Motive Hits so critical?<\/h3>\n\n<p>A vehicle that can no longer move is often as good as dead on the Alpha Strike battlefield.<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Easier targeting:<\/strong> An immobilized unit receives a massive <strong>-4<\/strong> penalty <strong> to its TMM<\/strong>. This means that the enemy will hit you almost automatically. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Danger of crashing:<\/strong> If a flying VTOL or WiGE vehicle is reduced to 0 MV in the air, <strong>it crashes immediately<\/strong>. This causes additional damage, can trigger critical hits and immobilizes the unit for the rest of the game. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sink:<\/strong> A hit submarine (Submersible) that loses its movement immediately sinks to the bottom of the water and also suffers damage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Loss of tactical utility:<\/strong> Vehicles often rely on their speed (like hovercrafts) to avoid being hit. A single bad throw can turn a fast reconnaissance vehicle into a stationary target. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I protect my vehicles?<\/h3>\n\n<p>There are a few tricks to minimize the risk:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Armored Motive System (ARS):<\/strong> Units with this special ability subtract <strong>1 from their Motive damage roll<\/strong>, significantly reducing the chance of taking heavy damage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use cover:<\/strong> As every hit can trigger a Motive check, it is vital not to get hit in the first place. Use forests or hills to increase your target number for the enemy. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Terrain selection:<\/strong> Tracked vehicles are significantly more robust on rough terrain than wheeled vehicles, which is reflected in the modifiers in the table.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>My conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Vehicles are powerful but fragile. If you play a tank like a mech and expose it to open fire, you will quickly realize that a &#8220;lame&#8221; tank is only good as an expensive roadblock.
