Mechfigures for a better size estimation  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The project: Three large ships and a small companion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally, I only wanted to have a single dropship printed as an eye-catcher for my games and demo tables. But as is often the case with creative projects, it didn&#8217;t stop there.<br\/>In the end, I ended up with <strong>three large dropships<\/strong> (mechscale) and <strong>a smaller ship<\/strong> &#8211; each with its own history and different printing conditions. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dropship #1 &#8211; Professionally printed by BenAD3D:<\/strong><br\/>I had the first model printed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benad3d.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">externally by BenAD3D<\/a>. The focus here was on the quality of detail. Smooth surfaces, clean lines and an impressive size immediately made this model a highlight on the gaming table. It is the <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderhead-studio.com\/products\/hextech-borealis-class-dropship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;HEXTECH: Borealis Class Dropship&#8221; model from Thunderhead Studios<\/a>. As I didn&#8217;t have a 3D printer at the time, I had the dropship printed by BenAD3D.    <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dropship #2 &#8211; 3D self-printing:<\/strong><br\/>After the first success, I wanted to know what was really possible in home printing. A BambuLab A1 had become my faithful companion. So I printed the second dropship <strong>myself<\/strong> &#8211; layer by layer on my own 3D printer. It was an exciting experiment: from preparing the print to tuning the settings and post-processing. In total, there were 14 printing plates with approx. 2.5 kg of PLA+. I printed them for more than a week.<br\/>The result? Some manual work, but the satisfying feeling of having created a complete large-scale model myself. I bought the STL files for it from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/posts\/union-dropship-122336922?source=storefront\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crow Industries<\/a>.       <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dropship #3 &#8211; Once again printed externally at The BirmanLab:<\/strong><br\/>For the third dropship, I once again used a professional printing service (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thebirmanlab.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The BirmanLab<\/a><\/strong>) for the third dropship. The aim here was to create a particularly large and massive model &#8211; beyond what my print bed at home would have produced.<br\/>This ship is also a real statement piece for the Alpha Strike table. It is a Union Dropship, but with very little interior fittings. <a href=\"https:\/\/cults3d.com\/en\/3d-model\/game\/old-school-sphere-dropship-mechscale-with-interior\">You can find the STL files here<\/a>.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Small escort ship &#8211; <strong>3D self-print<\/strong>:<\/strong><br\/>In addition to the three large models, I also printed a smaller dropship myself &#8211; ideal as a tactical addition or backdrop element for missions. The smaller format was quick to implement and is ideal for trying out different painting techniques. It is the <a href=\"https:\/\/hardwarestudios.co\/product\/beluga-dropship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Beluga Dropship from Hardwae Studios.<\/a>  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does this project show?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This dropship project is a good example of <strong>how versatile 3D printing<\/strong> has become <strong>in the tabletop sector<\/strong>.<br\/>Whether you print yourself or hire a service provider, with a little planning and patience you can create impressive models that take the gaming table to a new level.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Especially in <em>the BattleTech Alpha Strike environment<\/em>, where terrain and visual presence contribute a lot to the atmosphere, dropships are a real eye-catcher. Or a complete battlefield backdrop? <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing is certain:<br\/><strong>3D printing has made BattleTech Alpha Strike even more beautiful for me.<\/strong>  Now nothing stands in the way of a huge spaceport on the play mat. <a href=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/en\/hextech-aeroplex-core-set\/\">I had already printed the corresponding airport<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Personal note<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, this project was more than just a technical experiment &#8211; it was a journey through the possibilities of the modern tabletop hobby.<br\/>It&#8217;s always fascinating to see how a virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/mechstrategen.de\/en\/battletech-alpha-strike-and-3d-printing\/\">3D model<\/a> takes shape layer by layer.
